General
The New England states are the founder states of the USA. The scenery with its forests, middle range mountains, lakes, meadows and coasts remembers to England or Poland. But also the culture and attitude of the people is very European. If you want something different to Europe than visit the South-West, if you want something similar to Europe, than go here. The Lakes and the Atlantic Sea is pleasant for swimming, great sand beaches and the water is 20 degrees in Summer. In Juli and August it might be more difficult to find a room, and the prices are higher. The peak of the prices are during the times of the foliage at the Indian Summer in September/October.
Entrance fees and prices for leisure activities are eyewatering high, even there is not much to see ( 50 Dollar for a simple open air museum, 150 Dollar steam train up to the Mt.Washington for a couple with small child).to top

Indian Summer / Foliage
the leaf colouring in September/October takes four weeks and is presceeding from North to South. The leave colouring is here particulary intense and spectacular, because of the big differences of temperatures between day and night and the many species of trees in this area.It is Indian Summer, because it was usually the time of the last Indian attacks before winter. Popular roads or trails through the autumn forests are beside Kancamagus Highway 112, State No. 100 in the Green Mountains the Molly Stark Trail (No 9) in Vermont and the Mohawk Trail (No. 2) in Massachusettes. Also the Litchfield Hills in Connecticut (No.7) is a main destination of "Foliage Fans"

Ivy League Universities
Group of eight Elite- Universities in the North East of the USA. Ivy should be named after the growing of ivy at old university building and the winners in antic games. Another theory tells that the origin is dedecuted from the Roman number IV.
The number of four were the Football-League of Harvard, Yale, Columbia and Princeton. Later the Universities Brown, Cornell, Pennsylvania and Dartmouth College came along. The Ivy League is connected with academic excellence, but also with social elitism, high fees, strong selection at the entry, rich people and WASP America.Links: visitnh.gov,
