Black Forest (Schwarzwald)
and aroundthe Black Forest (Schwarzwald) is an area of forested small mountains (highest 1.400m Feldberg). Many Germans and also some tourists from the Netherlands and Belgium spent the holidays here.

interesting town in the outskirts. It was founded 1775 as a residental place in a fan-shaped urbanism. The German Constitual High Court (Bundesverfassungsgericht) and other German Federal High Courts have their seat here. The core of the town is the big castle built after plans of the architect Balthasar Neumann. The state museum of art and history is in the castle. There are two more museums of importance, the Staatliche Kunsthalle (German art) and the ZKM, the museum of art and media. Town of gold and jewel manufactory due the local margraves concession of a watch and jewel manufactory to a French entrepreneur in 1767. It is also the northern gateway to the Schwarzwald. Freiburg im Breisgau pop ~ 220.000
old university town with many old mediaval houses like the "historische Kaufhaus", "Neue and Alte Rathaus" (town hall), the "Walfischhaus", ans several old town gates. France /Alsacedas Elsass in Frankreich liegt ein Katzensprung über der Grenze. Strassburg hat eine riesige gotische Kathedrale und ein altes mittelalterliches Stadtviertel. Majstätisch wirkt die Burg "Haut Koenigsbourg", dann die schöne Fahrt durch die Weinberge mit den Fachwerkstädtchen Riquewire, (sehr touristisch), Kaysersberg und Ribeauville. Colmar hat neben einer pittoresken Altstadt das Musée de Unterlinden mit dem einzigartigen Grünberger Altar aus dem 15.Jhd.Riquewire

Switzerland
Im Süden grenzt Basel und der Rheinfall von Schaffhausen. Schön ist das mittelalterliche Stadtbild von Stein am Rhein. Die Klosterbibliothek von St. Gallen ist auch einen Umweg wert.

Nicht verpassen sollte man im mittleren bis südlichen Schwarzwald in jedem Fall der Feldsee unterhalb des Feldbergs, der Nonnenmattweiher bei Badenweiler, die alte romanische Kirche St. Cyriak in Sulzburg bei Staufen, das Kloster St. Trudpert im Münstertal, das Freilichtmuseum in Gutach und das Münster in Freiburg. Außerdem die Wutachschlucht bei Bonndorf sowie die Gipfel der höchsten Schwarzwaldberge Feldberg, Kandel, Schauinsland,Hornisgrinde, Schliffkopf, Belchen und Blauen.
